Abstract
Chronic myelofibrosis is characterized by an increase of fibrous tissue and clusters of
megakaryocytes in the bone marrows, extramedullary hematopoiesis and
leucoerythroblastosis in the peripheral blood. Chronic myelofibrosis is considered one of
type of myeloproliferative disorder, and acute leuckemia transforms in as many as 20%
among them.
Sixteen patients with chronic myelofibrosis were observed from 1977 through 1982.
Three of 16 patients with chronic myelofibrosis died of acute leukemia proved by follow
up bone marrow study. These cases were reported with brief reviewed literatures.
No significant role for therapy could be determined in the evolution of idiopathic
myeloid metaplasia to acute leukemia.
